Review the five-step decision-making process on pages 90–102 in your textbook. Write a three-page paper showing how you will use this process to create a career plan for advancing to a new position in the healthcare industry.

You should present your process and plan in an organized and detailed manner. You may want to consider your assignment submissions and professor feedback from the following units as you develop your plan:

Define the opportunity
To me is finding the change I want for the future. Making the plans to move forward and
breaking down the change in baby steps. Example is changing jobs and deciding if a location
move is the right thing to do at the same time. The opportunity that arises may be a new job in a
new location. I personally would want to wait for the job I have in a new location or vise versa.
The opportunity I am looking for in the near future is growth in a higher position such as a
manager roll. I have to compare my earnings to the cost of living. A few years back I took a job
roll that was stepping down as a lead, but moved locations. I was at the time making more money
than I was doing more work. However, the financial cost a\of living was also more. It was not
the best move financially but at the time it gave me better mental and personal support to be
closer to my family. The goal at the time was not to make a career move but to better my health
and that would lead to my next goal of making changes in my career path. The doors that opened
and opportunity that came along made it all worth it.
Generate ideas
I look at my strengths and my strongest is my communication skills. I am outgoing an able to
make connections just about anywhere I go. I have started looking at other career paths. Still the
same main idea working as an advocate for clients and supporting their health care. I have been
exploring new avenues on how my work can affect a bigger population or support a movement.
Recently my current company has presented me with an opportunity to take a leadership course.
This idea is among great appreciation but keeping in mind the dedication and commitment that
comes with it. I could also change jobs and pursue a leadership course that is less demanding but
still improves my skills.
Evaluate and select best ideas
Advancing in health care takes a lot of balancing and making sacrifices in Job switching
and home life. Shifting to logical or analytical thinking to evaluate each idea or
combination of ideas for its successful outcome. ( Colbert, B., & Katrancha, E. (2015).
Making a pros and cons side by side to see the weight of what matches the outcome
wanted. My personal goal is to become a grant writer. I have to make decisions based on
my ultimate goal. For instance taking a job for financial reasons that has no opportunity
with grant writing VS taking a role that is the same pay but has the experience I want. I
have two long term goals of financial gain and the other is growing in the field I want my
career to move towards. I feel in this step looking at the long term and comparing to
short term goals comes in to effect. Prioritizing and picking which path or ave I want to
take at this time happens in this step.
Implement ideas
Growing and deciding to change jobs comes with putting in a resignation letter. This step
can be very sensitive because of work relationships made. The fact that you are stepping
away from work that you single handily are in charge of. The opportunity may not gib]ve
you much time to say goodbye. I have always found that separating from a job and making
sure not to burn bridges is a fine line to walk. I have always had that what if I want to
come back thought in my head. Making decisions on the next step can be stressful but
keeping a positive mindset helps through out the process.
Evaluate impacts
Making decisions in life have a huge impact on what comes next. Taking the time and
working through decision making is a smart and helpful way to tackle life changing
events. Taking steps back to ultimately getting you where you want to be is ok. Practicing
self-feedback is something I need to perform more often. Opening my window of people
to share with is very important to get different views on the outcome. Having feedback
from multiple sources allows time for reflection and evaluate the situation fairly. When I
want to make a big job change, I pick a supervisor or colose coworker, my best friend and
a family member to see what their perspective is. I love hearing what they say and
bringing to light things I have not even thought of. Using this 5 step process definitely will
be in my future and my career goal.
