I’m so glad you pointed out that the hypothesis was not clear.  That means they did a terrific job in setting up the study. For most studies, you do not want the subjects to guess the hypothesis because then they will respond in a socially desirable way probably.  All of us want to be helpful and we want to help the experimenter get the results they want (even if we as subjects don’t realize this about ourselves).  Therefore, almost all experiments involve some deception.  Otherwise, they would not get accurate responses from the subjects.  For example, lets say that this study is looking at differences between males and females on moral decisions.  If they told you that they think that males base their decisions on individual’s welfare and women make the decisions based on the welfare of the group, then as a woman you may answer in a certain way.  (By the way, there is no such research evidence about males’ and females’ moral judgments. )  That situation would be similar to telling a person who is in a drug study whether they are on the real drug or the placebo.  By telling them that, they may see themselves as  feeling more or less pain (depending on which group they are in) and that would ruin the study.  I am posting a you tube about ethics in medical research.  It is very similar to the ethics in psychological research.  In both instances, some deception is necessary, but the deception cannot be harmful to the subjects.
Great work on your post.

I decided to go with the topic stress and health. The students who conducted this study used an survey, I took the survey. A lot of things can be considered when a person becomes overwhelmed and stress. I think that the questions they asked was reasonable. They asked age, gender, race, if I’m in school, income how I see myself financially. They asked a lot of question on how I felt emotionally. Than asked about my child hood and how I was raised and treated by family members. Than it asked me if I had future goals in life. Once the survey was completed it said your results have been recorded. The method they chose is statistical measurement. They’re simply collect data from individuals to get a better understanding of individual  stress and their health.
At the beginning they asked a lot of personal questions. There was  a lot of agree or strongly disagree questions. I think they’re just trying to get a general idea of the mental state of stress and if people are healthy. I think they should figure out why people are stressing. Like ask more financial question and relationship questions because that’s what people stress more about I think. Or pin point what’s causing people to stress and based on the answers the questions should go more into detailed. There were no questions about how many hours a person worked a week, or how much family time they get to spend with their families. Overall there was a lot of broad questions. I think they did well ask emotional questions. Their goal was to get statistics and their questions fit that. Towards the middle there was some personal questions in there. I don’t think some people would be open enough to answer all the questions truthfully. I understand that the survey is anonymous, but some people like to hide pain and tragic events that happened to them in the past. It’s hard to tell if people are being fully honest with the survey.
There was a question that asked if I was raised using government assistant. If someone parent or caregiver struggled financially chances are they will as well. Everyone wasn’t born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Chances of them having a bright future can be slim to none. How individuals were raised has a lot to do with how they turn out.
I believe this is very relevant to my personal and professional life. I don’t think any of my aunties or uncles made it to college. All my uncles were in and out of jail and on drugs. My mom and auntie were more level headed but got pregnant and didn’t go to college. I personally just wanted something more out of life I always felt that my education was very important to me, and so was my money and not being broke. So, I decided to join the army and have them pay for my schooling. Yes, I’m a single mom of two but my kids never gotten in the way of me completing a class or accomplishing any goals I have.

Hi Class,
I chose the Interpersonal Relationships: Reasons for Faking (Links to an external site.)
I answered survey questions by a rating scale of Never 0 to Always 9. The survey also asked for gender, age, sexual preference, committal relationship, duration of the relationship.
There was no hypothesis to the study. It was an assessment of different reasons why a woman would fake an orgasm, or a man would feign interest in sex.
The researcher did an excellent job following the ethical rules of the APA. I read and signed informed consent on confidentiality and the risks of the study.
I can see this as an internal benefit for myself and society because sex itself is complicated. The research questions gave enlightenment to why people may choose to have a sexual relationship whether or not it leads to real or fake feelings.
I feel that the method for the “Reasons for Faking” was informational, fact-finding or data collecting method. However, the survey could be closely related to the correlation method because of the variations of questioning as in asking the same question in a different way, trying to see a variance in the answer.
Many of the questions in the survey were subjective in manner. I would suggest a not applicable option for the problems that do not pertain to the participant.
The questionnaire was constant. The questions are equally given to anyone who chose to participate as in multiple-choice. The answers were noted for sexual participation in the last month. In the text, Social Psychology, states, “Note that with the correlational method, the researcher is not manipulating the environment to attempting to change people’s behavior, but rather, looking at what people are naturally doing, specific attributes, or what they are thinking or feeling” (Feenstra, J. (2013). Social psychology. Retrieved from (Links to an external site.)). The research done on this survey will assist in making a hypothesis about the variables men and women and why they do what they do when having a sexual encounter.
The deception was not a factor in the survey. The researcher clearly explained what the intention was for the examination it states, “…there are different motivations to have sex. The purpose of this research study is to assess the many different reasons that woman would fake an orgasm, or a man would fake interest in sex” (Reasons for Faking). Pretty straight forward and the questions aligned with the statement.
I believe that this study could reveal how complicated relationships can be in our society and culture. For example, our duties as a married couple and the expectations that come with the stigma of such. Also, how much media, Hollywood, or other avenues influence the way we “should” behave when it comes to sex.  The questions that were given gave me some insight into how I may behave or how it will affect the way I teach my children about romantic relationships. I believe that this study would be beneficial to the field of Social Psychology in how we interpret interpersonal relationships.

Good evening class,
I decided to research the beliefs and attitudes link,  then I went further to look over an additional link, assessing behaviors and attitudes. When going through I realized that it was a simple survey that took about 15 minutes to complete and asking questions of what and how I act or view myself within a certain amount of days. (Links to an external site.)
Within this survey one can interpret that the person conducting research was wanting to potentially see with different genders and age groups of how persons may choose to act and how they feel. Being that the hypothesis and theory could be that, in different age groups no matter the gender there can be a cause and effect, if you will, to understand the behaviors and attitudes of others, while being grouped together by traits presented with answering the survey. Even though this was assumed by oneself, there was no clear indication of either hypothesis nor theory. Conducting a survey such as the one in which I took allows for the researcher to narrow why people have different attitudes and behaviors by specific categories.
Being in the military you deal with all types of behaviors and attitudes as many come from a wide range of backgrounds, which in turn shows the way others view morals and ethics respectfully. It reads within our text that, “social psychologists emphasize how outside forces affect behavior, yet, personality psychologists focus on differentiating people from one another, observing how forces inside the persons affected behavior,” (Feenstra, J., 2013). So, going back to the topic in which I choose, this better explains as to why the researcher decided to conduct a survey, to see what type of dynamic a group may tend to have.
There was a method that was used known as the correlation method, where researchers often want to be able to predict if one behavior (or feeling or thought) will occur as a result of another behavior, (Feenstra, J., 2013). With the use of the sequence in which questioned were asked it allowed to build on one another, meaning you answer a set of questions that would most likely create a baseline and then lead into more specific questions. Did I feel that there was deception within this research, not necessarily, the researcher had an intent and it was fulfilled by striking questions to pose thought into the respective category of ages and gender being the variable!
Being that age was a factor as well as gender, it made me start to analyze myself a bit more as a middle-aged woman. There was a specific question do you spend money needlessly and I did answer truthfully, however, when the researcher depicts how they so choose it could be viewed negatively saying middle-aged woman spend too much on needless things. All in all, the survey was good to understand how one can create a method in how to better understand a group of people, but as the question was posed to us through speaking of our research, was this a true assessment or were individuals deceived by the questions for the result in which the researcher intended for their desired end state?
