Good organizational leaders who engage global (multinational) cultures to improve their global reputation have strong corporate cultures. Comparable to traditional organizational cultures, global strategies/ multinational enterprises manage complex operations by choice. They are familiar with the challenges that arise in multiple markets, a plethora of cultural milieus, and political jurisdictions (Devinney et al., 2014). Business relationships greatly depend on stakeholder service and commitment levels. Relationships are conditional and based on engagement levels, managing conflicts, effective communication, and transparency (Fassin, 2012). Multinational leaders focus on the strengths and abilities of human potential to positively influence global perception within their organizations. For example, the United Nations has dedicated itself to unifying its labor goals and pursuing human rights, anti-corruption, and protecting the environment (Shoji, 2015). Globally, cultures may coexist in many ways rather than being incompatible with one another. To achieve organizational objectives, leadership must consider each person’s emotional and cultural needs and intellectual contributions.

There are several different ways people “lead” others and contribute to the overall organizational culture, or atmosphere.

 

Culture is dependent upon how gratifying the working atmosphere is regarding the perceptions and experiences of each individual (Ritonga et al., 2019). There are also many types of leadership styles. One can be manipulative and coercive, one can be kind and approachable, and another can be to the process, no deviations. Two types of leadership styles are transformational and transactional. 

Not everyone agrees, but that is the beauty of the world. Because of such diverse cultural backgrounds, the world functions, is not stagnant, and knowledge flows because people are different. Transformational leaders epitomize the meaning of inclusion and so foster a meaningful culture of knowledge-sharing and innovation. Transformational leaders are those that are trustworthy and motivate their employees to be creative, thereby instilling organizational commitment and purpose (Juliana et al., 2021).  On the other side is the transactional leader. Transactional leaders engage with their employees by the book and focus on strategy to sustain the organization (Juliana et al., 2021). Both leadership styles are beneficial in that, by their definition, both styles engage employees.

As an organizational leader, it is important that social interaction manifests positive perceptions about the underlying organizational structure. According to Ritonga et al. (2019), leadership is an intense performance that considers individual emotional factors, intellectual contributions, and overall motivational needs to pursue organizational goals. Given that transformational and transactional leaders may operate on different sides of the spectrum, it is worth learning to be the leader that can operate both ways from a situational context.

The best way to engage individuals from other cultures is first to ask questions and then be effective in listening. One must learn about cultural norms when supervising people from diverse cultures. According to Lawless (2021), Organizations and managers who recognize diversity, particularly racial, ethnicity, or national identity but do little to intervene in the systems that promote homogeneity will continue to practice the behaviors of the dominant culture. As a college professor, I spend a lot of time with students of many cultures. As such, it is essential as an educator in a diverse state like California to be aware of and willing to learn about the cultures of the students that I teach. As a leader, it is essential to understand and respect their subordinates’ culture, whether in a classroom or a boardroom. Leaders in organizations should be competent enough to understand the differences between the cultures of employees coming from different countries and will promote respect, tolerance, and understanding of each other’s backgrounds (Knap-Stefaniuk & Burkiewicz, 2018) when cultures are respected and even celebrated, morale in an organization increases which affects productivity.
