Group assignment which requires team work needs group members to work all together towards the goals. In this semester’s group assignments, all of our group members contributed to reach the goals. Although at the beginning, we did not deal with the assignment very well because we have not find an appropriate method to split all the work, we figured out the right path to complete the assignments from the experience of the first assignment.

We have five people in the group, each of us has specific task. One or two of us is more like leader of the group, and I act like a regular group member who connects with each other. Because I have the advantage of time management, after the group leader split the work and assign different jobs, I tried to determine a specific time when each group members should complete the draft which s/he responsible for. I kept in touch with group members to ensure the process while all of us were working on the assignments. Most of our group assignments could conduct final editing before the due time and came out completed versions.

We conducted many meeting outside of class during the semester except the assigned workshop schedules. I attended every meeting except for those at which I had classes. At the beginning of the semester, I did not talk too much because I did not know them very well. However, I expressed my opinions and shared recommendation later in the semester in order to better implement the assignments. I understood that each of us played a role in the group and we have to work together to complete the tasks, hence, I treated every assignment seriously and tried my best to work them out. As a time controller of the group, I understand that I have to submit my part in a timeliness manner. Therefore, I sent my responsible part to the final editor one day before the due time which I had set for the group. I sent emails communicated with other group members to ensure all of us could finish our piece of work. The group members told me that they might turn in the work late but not later than the assignment due day. I have learned to respect each group members’ opinions since we did not know who can tell the best ideas. Sometimes the best ideas are the combination of all. In addition, other group member understood the importance of timeliness manner. In the first group assignment, we ran out of time and the paper was done right before the due time. After learning from the experience, I set up timeline for group members to follow and the assignment could be completed ahead of time.

As a group, we have the same goal, therefore, we are able to work together. We discussed the main direction first when we meet, and then split the work, and at last we conducted final organization on the assignment. With this strategy, we all participated in the assignments and because we had the main direction, we had similar point of views, so we did not have conflicted ideas in the assignment, which could smooth the process of completion. Instead of working on our assigned work individually, I think the group may work together in a better way if we can communicate with each other. Sometimes when we finished the work piece by piece, each piece of work might not connect very well although they had same direction. But when the group can work those pieces all together, it may come out with a more consolidated paper.

In the rest of the semester, I will work with the group members closely and continue the role play as a time controller. I will communicate with group members more often and also set timeline for the future assignment to better implement the task. Good group assignments require excellent teamwork. I believe we can work together very well in the rest of the semester under the same goal.
