You will be using a time machine to lead an expedition to the Archean at around 3.0 billion years before present. To successfully complete this task, you will need to plan for the excursion. You need to anticipate the conditions and look for evidence to answer some burning questions about this portion of the Earth’s history. You should plan for the trip using published information that describes the Archean.
Instructions
1. Conduct your research for the creation of a slideshow. Consider the following questions:
Research Questions
What do you want to find out? Why? Be sure to include in your presentation a dedicated slide just to your question and reasons why you’re exploring this topic. (5pts)
What evidence will you need to collect in order to answer your question? Why is this evidence relevant or important? (5pts)
Where will you need to go to collect this evidence? Why do you need to go to these places? (5 pts)
Equipment
What equipment will you need for life support? (3 pts)
What equipment will you need for data collection? (3 pts)
Anticipated Conditions
Is there a place to land? Describe the current state of the earth’s interior layers and plate tectonics. (4 pts)
What is the temperature, weather, etc.? (5 pts)
What is the atmosphere composed of? Can you breathe here? (5pts)
Will there be any water? Will you be able to drink it? Describe the current state of water and the hydrologic cycle on earth. (5pts)
What life or evidence of its presence do you expect to observe (or not observe)? Why? Consider these terms in your research: anaerobic, aerobic, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, heterotrophs and autotrophs. (5 pts)
2. Create a slideshow. You may use PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple’s Keynote, or Open Office’s Impress but you must save your presentation as a , .ptt, or .pptx for grading. Use the program’s “Save as” or “Export” feature to complete this. Also, a blank PowerPoint template has been provided for your use but you are not required to use it. Other slideshow requirements include:
Citations. In-text parenthetical citations and a work cited slide at the end of the presentation are required. Please follow APA or MLA format and include URLs in the work cited slide.
Paraphrase. Limit the use of direct quotes and remember to paraphrase your sources.
Images. Illustrate your presentation with relevant imagery. I’ve provided the art work from your textbook to help with this. It is attached to this assignment.
Answers to questions from number 1 above. While this is a slideshow, you still need to explain and use details in your answers. (Citations and images – 5 pts)
