I always wondered how ER nurses protect themselves from infectious diseases, particularly when the illness is not known at the time of meeting the patient for the first time. For floor nurses by the time they accept the patient, most likely nurses are already using PPE. The influenza vaccine not only will protect nurses and the public in general but those immune-compromised. Epidemiology plays an important role in the detection of deadly diseases and trends that could cause death rapidly. One example in recent years is the H1N1 were many people ended in Intensive Care Units across the country.
