Excel Project 1 – Pie Charts and Bar Graphs
Researchers have gathered data from a coastal area to measure the prevalence of certain species of animals.
The data are displayed in Table 1. Use this information to construct a pie chart and bar graph in accordance
with the instructions below. The excel spreadsheet ( *.xls or *.xlsx ) should be submitted through Canvas
only.

Create a pie chart using the data in Table 1.
• Include a meaningful title on your pie chart
• Label the wedges with the percentage of the total
• Include a legend to identify the different wedges
• Organize the wedges by percentage of the total number of animals observed represented by each
species (Largest to smallest or smallest to largest).
• An example of a correctly formatted pie chart (for a different dataset) is in Figure 1

Create a bar graph using the data in Table 1.
• Include a meaningful title on your bar graph
• Label each bar with its species, include space between the individual bars
• Include labels on the axes
• Label each bar with the total number of each species
• Arrange the bars by height
• An example of a correctly formatted bar graph (for a different dataset) is in Figure 2
