Spring 2020
Due Date: March 25th, 2020
Purpose:
You are an engineer at a local engineering firm. Your supervisor asked you to analyze three beams
shown on the “Floor Framing Plan” for a building in Brooklyn. Your assignment is to solve for the
reactions at the supports for each beam included in your case.
Note: Neglect the weight of the beam in your analysis.
For your individual case number do the following for each of the 3 loaded beams:
a. Simply supported – Beam F1
b. Overhanging – Beam F2
c. Fixed ended – Beam F3
Requirements:
Each student is to complete and submit their report in the following order:
1) Cover page: to be typed and must include:
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)
your name
project name
project number
case number
date due
date submitted
2) Instructions:
a) Floor Framing Plan
b) Dimensions & Loading Table – highlight your case
3) Calculations: to be completed on one side of engineering paper, one beam case per sheet, must
be neat and must include:
a)
b)
c)
d)
Loading Diagram drawn to an approximate scale for each analyzed beam
A Free Body Diagram (F.B.D.) for each analyzed beam
Solve for the reactions at the supports for each beam included in your case
Include all units!
