Collect your ideas, construct a plausible argument, and assemble your topics in a logical, persuasive order. Include a thesis statement, a 1-2 sentence introduction, and a 1-2 sentence conclusion.
Here is the rubric I will use to give points for your essays:
60 A complex analysis of the subject with good evidence and your own original thinking. An intriguing thesis about the subject. I learned from you.
55 Some of your own thinking, original ideas, some analysis, some evidence.
50 Occasional flashes of your own thinking, but much retelling of the story or not enough evidence.
45 Mostly you are retelling the story, not analyzing it. Or you make intriguing statements but don’t back them up with evidence from the text.
40 You wrote too little and/or didn’t complete all parts of the essay.
(or less)
We have discussed education (e.g., formal education or experiential), but there is a more basic question still: What is education? Is all experience education? Is all formal education really educational?
Provide your own definition of education. (ideas to think about):
a. What is included in your definition?
b. What counts as education?
c. How do we know that something counts as education? Does there have to be an outcome?
d. How do we know when education has happened?
