Assignment I Proposal
Action Research and Data Collection Format Plan Proposal Outline
For this assignment, include, at a minimum, how your district/school/classroom performed in
terms of adequate yearly progress for two reporting/goal content areas such as reading, writing,
math, or science for at least the last two years. Document your resources using APA style. You
will need the following information:

integration of technology)? Does this initiative influence your action research proposal?
5) How does the combined above data/information influence your action research focus
area?
Keep in mind for your proposal you should use your system data. States provide district and
school performance data for public use on their department of education website.
At a minimum, your outline must include the following. Refer to your required unit resources for
this unit for more specific guidance.
1) Introduction/area of focus – (The purpose of this study is to…)
a) Problem you are trying to solve/answer
b) Variables/definitions c. Research question(s)
2) Literature review
a) Relevant past research
b) Implications of review
3) Describe the intervention or innovations (learning model to be used)
a) Membership of the action research group
b) Negotiations to be undertaken and resources needed
c) Timeline development
4) Data collection plan

b) Detail how you will collect data
Your outline should be a minimum of five pages in length. All sources used, including the
textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying
citations and be cited per APA guidelines.
Assignment 2 Essay
In Assignment 1, you created a proposal outline for your action research plan, which included
your data analysis plan. For this assignment, you will create a response to that data collection
plan in the form of proposed data analysis. You must answer the following question:
How would you propose to analyze and display the data collected in your action research
proposal plan?
Your essay must be a minimum of two pages. You are expected to support your essay with
sources/references. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased
and quoted material must have accompanying citations. Adhere to APA Style when constructing
this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please
note
that no abstract is needed.
Assignment 3
For this assignment choose an action planning template of your choice, develop an action plan
that could be a response to the action research proposal written in Assignment 1. You may want
to create your own template to include additional areas specific to your plan in addition to the
standard areas to be addressed. You may use a SMART goal format as well. Be sure to include
any professional development needs that should be addressed. Your paper must be a minimum of
two pages. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted

Assignment 4
This is your opportunity to “write up” your action research project as if you were submitting the
findings to a journal or presenting to your peers during a professional development meeting.
Preface the assignment by stating your audience (for whom you are writing the report). Audience
could include your peers, administration, school board, or a particular journal. Complete the
assignment as a research report summary, and include all areas described by using the headings
listed below.
a) Area-of-Focus Statement (e.g., The purpose of this study was to…)
b) Related Literature
c) Defining the Variables
d) Research Questions
e) Description of Intervention or Innovation
f) Data Collection Data Considerations (e.g., validity, reliability, and ethics)
g) Data Analysis and Interpretation
h) Action Plan (e.g., “Steps to Action” chart)
Your summary should be a minimum of three pages. All sources used, including the textbook,
must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. Adhere

Assignment 5
Choose your own action research proposal and project
Apply the Criteria for Evaluating Action Research on page 287 (ATTACHED) to consider the
rigor of the action research considered. Address each of the areas listed below.
a) Area of focus
b) Research questions
c) Locus of control
d) Data collection
e) Ethics
f) Reflective stance
g) Action
h) Action-data connection
i) Personal reflection
j) Next steps
Your summary should be a minimum of three pages. Adhere to APA Style when creating
citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.
Research in Action Checklist 10–1 Criteria for
Evaluating Action Research
• Area of focus—Does the area of focus involve teaching and
learning?
• Research questions—Does the researcher state questions
that were answerable given the researcher’s expertise, time, and
resources?
• Locus of control—Was the area of focus within the
researcher’s locus of control?
• Data collection—Did the researcher use appropriate data
collection techniques (qualitative and/or quantitative) to answer the
study’s research questions?
• Ethics—Did the research face any ethical challenges? If so,
how were they resolved?
• Reflective stance—In what ways has the action research
effort contributed to the researcher’s reflective stance on the ways
teaching and learning are viewed?
• Action—Did the outcomes of the study lead to action?
• Action-data connection—How is the proposed action
connected to the study’s data analysis and interpretation?
