please note that this essay should be 3-5 pages long (~750-1,250 words) and does not need a works cited/reference list or citations beyond page numbers *unless you use outside sources* (not recommended, but if you do, certainly cite them via footnote.)
For this essay, you will need to develop an interpretation (aka thesis statement) that is developed from a close reading of an assigned part of Genji Monogatari. Both the close-reading part and the thesis part are critical for your essay to be successful, so meticulously review the guides and resources linked below .
