GEN1001M – Ethics: What’s the Big Deal? Assignment 5

  assignment #3

The theory that best represented the article in my opinion was the ethics of caring, simply because it defines the goodness in terms of whether or not we take care of the people around us. Bus drivers are professionally trained to help those in need and have limited abilities to function. Majority of them are kind people, and although you might have the odd selfish driver who might be in a bad mood or something. For the most part, drivers play their role in making sure handicapped passengers are comfortable, fastened, and make them the priority in being the first passengers aboard. In some cases though, bus driver are not able to see people on wheelchairs so mistakes can happen.

I found the categorical imperative theory to also represent the article because of the fact that rules must always be obeyed. OC transpo drivers were trained under the rules and regulation within the company policy. There are certain people who are given priorities such as people in wheelchairs, handicapped, pregnant women, and women carrying strollers. Assignment #5

In my opinion when is Free Speech Hate Speech it is the time when someone is voicing his believe on something or expressing his fillings and it hurts or harms someone’s culture or religious. All speech should be Free Speech from disrespecting and hateful towards others. People should respect to one another at the same time when someone is voicing his believe that person should carefully choose his or her words to avoid causing harm to others. Someone voicing his or her concerns in a negative and harmful way towards others should have punishment based on his or her action.

The two moral theories from chapter one that I am choosing is the virtue theory and the ethics of justice. The virtue theory focuses more on the nature of the person making decision, rather than other decision itself. The ethics of justice is straight forward justice to all people. It refers under impartiality that every person is treated equally and no one is given preferential treatment in the theory.
