Survey Data File) for the response variable being tested.
● Whether you reject or fail to reject, the issue then becomes what is some plausible reason
or explanation or interpretation for the outcome the test produced or what is an inference
that can be made about the population (identify your assumed population)?
● Responses should be concise, clear, and organized.
● You are not asked to state H0 and H1, but it will help you answer B & D. See next page.
2 Independent Samples: there are no facts given because the class body – upper-division business
students at a major university in San Diego – is the facts; you are analyzing the survey data you
created in Week 1. Knowing that, these are the 4 facets of the null with the bold applying here:

● There is nothing in the facts (again you, as a class body, are the facts) to indicate direction.
● Thus the two groups/measurements should be equal (not statistically significantly different).

Paired Data Samples: this is a Before\After test, with the same student sample being measured
twice, regarding Students MIS 301 Anxiety Levels. Between the two measurements there was an
intervening event: Coverage of the Syllabus and the Class Introduction. We do NOT know whether
being informed about the course via the Syllabus and Introduction material reduced or raised (or
had no effect) – perhaps not for everyone but on average – Students Anxiety Levels. Therefore:
● We perform a 2-tail test on the Difference Group, using the following pattern -● ↓ Before − ↑ After = Negative Difference
● ↑ Before − ↓ After = Positive Difference
● So the Sign of the Test Stat indicates whether the Before or After Sample
had the Higher\Lower Anxiety Level.
