Learning In Adulthood Research Paper Writing Guidance
INTRODUCTION: The research paper is the pinnacle assignment of this course. This is a doctorate-level research paper. It is not an opinion paper. Students are expected to utilize scholarly, primary sources to ground their research. Secondary sources are acceptable, but primary sources are encouraged. This will help you prepare for the doctoral dissertation.
TOPIC: The topic for your term paper should be on a content specialty area focusing on adult learning theories and practicalities regarding the chosen area of study. Content specialty areas include, but are not limited to: Education Theory, Mathematics, History, English, Criminal Justice, Student Personnel Services, Information Services, Communication, Technology, Business, Medical Health Science, Military Education, Religion/Ministry, Mindfulness, etc. Be sure to choose a topic that affords an adequate amount of scholarly research material. This can also be an opportunity to conduct research for your doctoral dissertation topic. Your paper should correlate with the material covered in this course.

· Submit your research paper using MS Word. Do not submit as a PDF.

THESIS and THESIS MAP: The thesis statement is the primary thought that keeps your research paper on target. It should be one to three sentences that tells the reader what the paper is about. The thesis map comes next and is exactly what the name implies. It is a “map” that tells the reader where the research is going or how it will unfold the thesis statement. There are numerous online examples of a good thesis statement and thesis map. The thesis statement and map should be found in the Introduction of your research paper. The thesis statement and thesis map will not have its own heading. Both are contained within the Introduction.
