2. Search for, “Creating Flowcharts for Beginners” and click on the following result:

3. A business process is a series of activities for accomplishing an objective. Organizations have
processes for taking a customer order, requesting a vacation, and registering for a class. Each
process is made up of activities performed by actors to complete the process.
Instructions
1. You need to use Microsoft Visio for this assignment.
a. If you do not have Microsoft Vision installed on your computer, you can find it in any of the
computer labs (locations at here)
b. Note that Microsoft does not produce Visio for the Macintosh Operating System.
i. DePaul offers a Virtual Lab that contains Visio. You can find instructions on how to
access the Virtual Lab here.
c. Note that while Office 365 online includes Visio, DePaul’s license does not allow you to edit
2. Select a business process that contains:
a. Between 5 to 10 steps (activities)
b. At least 3 actors (these can be humans or computer).
c. At least 1 decision
3. Create a Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) diagram with swimlanes.
a. See figure 2-1 in the textbook for an example (you may not use this process) or below.

b. Creating swimlanes
i. When you start Visio, select this template get access to the swimlanes (crossfunctional) stencil and shapes
ii. You may use horizontal or vertical swimlanes
c. Using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)
i. In the Shapes pane on the left of the screen, search for “bpmn” to switch to a group
of standard BPMN shapes.
4. Create your flowchart using the correct shapes, swimlanes, and connections for your steps.
a. Steps and decisions must have clear and concise text.
5. Save the file in Visio drawing format.
6. Export as a PDF file.
7. Submit a PDF file of your diagram to D2L Submissions in the HW1 folder.
a. Your file should have the format:
i. LastName_FirstName_HW1.pdf
