Due Date: 11:59 pm EST, Sunday of Unit 7
Points: 100
There are over 33,000 gangs actively involved in the United States. Youth involvement
with gangs is often found in lower-income areas where crime is much higher. As
criminal justice professionals in your local towns and cities, you must be aware of the
gangs and the ways to prevent the youth from getting involved.
Scenario: The principal of a local high school has reached out to you, the School
Resource Officer, because of graffiti and gang signs appearing in the school. She is
worried that students will begin to go down the wrong path if this is not stopped.
Research gangs in your community or the country. Select one gang to discuss the
following:
1. Discuss their history to include origins, colors, membership, migration to other
areas, and crimes they commit. Remember that the focus is on the youth, not
joining these gangs.
2. Discuss the ways to communicate with youth about gangs.
3. Recommend ways the youth can stay out of gangs.
• Submit a Word document in APA format.
• Maximum three pages in length, excluding the Title and Reference pages.
• At least two resources.
Be sure to read the criteria below by which your work will be evaluated before
you write and again after you write.
