JOURNAL WRITING

Introduction

A journal is a place where you can practice writing in English. Please note that your entries will not be corrected for grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc., because that is not the purpose of journal writing. Instead, your content is what is important.

Grading

You are required to complete two 12-page journal books. Each book will be assigned a grade out of 12. In order to get full points, you must complete all twelve pages (single-spaced), write on all the assigned topics with the required number of pages for each, and have content that demonstrates that you put time, thought, and effort into your writing.

Topics

During the course of the semester, your instructor may assign you topics to write on, and may give you guidelines on how much to write for each. It is recommended that you record your assigned topics in the space below or inside the front cover of your journal book.

If, after completing the assigned topics, you still have empty space in your book, then fill up the remaining pages with topics of your choosing. Some suggested topics can be found on the back of this page.

The first two assigned topics are:

1. How I Feel about Writing

2. A comparison of the character of Julia Roberts in the movie, “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and one of the other movies, “Erin Brockovich” or “Pretty Woman.”
