It was Margaret Mead, a notable anthropologist of the 20th century, who once said, “A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Citizens of the U.S. have the responsibility as well as the privilege to take an active role in how the country is governed. You can choose to take a stand, vote, run for office, volunteer to make the world a better place, or do nothing at all! The choice is up to you. The fact that you have a choice is due to democracy!

Remember, in the United States of America, we each have a voice! Concepts of American Government

The Concepts of American Government

Separation of Powers have enabled me understand how the government is structured. By identifying the structure, the functions of each breakdown of the government can be easily stated. The concept of Bicameralism states that it is not a must for these structures to have the same opinion. It shows that there is independence for each branch.
The last concept of checks and balances also ensures that there is fairness is administration by these branches. This concept gives each branch power

Concepts of American Government
William E. Gladstone who was a British prime minister once stated that the US constitution was the most wonderful work that has been done by a human being.
This statement increased my interest in understanding more about the constitution.
The important concepts I learned about the constitution include:
Separation of Powers
Bicameralism
Checks and Balances

Separation of Powers have enabled me understand how the government is structured. By identifying the structure, the functions of each breakdown of the government can be easily stated. The concept of Bicameralism states that it is not a must for these structures to have the same opinion. It shows that there is independence for each branch.
The last concept of checks and balances also ensures that there is fairness is administration by these branches. This concept gives each branch power

Continuation
Bicameralism is a type of legislature that is divided into two separate assemblies (Britannica, 2017). The unique property about this concept is that all members do not vote and deliberate as one.
Check and Balances provide each branch of the government the power to check other branches.
Separation of powers refer to the separation of the three main domains. The three domains include:
The legislative branch.
The executive branch.
The judiciary branch

Bicameralism describes a government that gas two legislative houses. For example, in the US there is the Senate and the House of Representatives (Britannic, 2017). The main aim of Bicameralism is to ensure that the legislature is not given too much power (Kenton, 2021). Therefore, Bicameralism ensures that there is a functioned balance of power between different social groups and classes within the society.
Additionally, the checks and balances regulates the power of each branch of the government. Each branch has a poer of regulating the other.

Impacts of the Concepts
On the concept of separation of power, I am able to separate the three branches and identify the function of each. The inter-relationship between them and how they affect the policies and politics of a nation.
Additionally, I learned about checks and balances. I was able to understand how these branches regulate each other. It reduces the chances of multi-practices within these branches.
Additionally, I am now able to identify roles of different leaders.
I have also been able to understand the difference between bicameralism and unicameralism.

Understanding the structure of government and the constitution has had an impact on my view of the government. I used to blame my leaders for not accomplishing roles that they are not even supposed to. Understanding the constitution has also enabled me understand the relationship between different branches of the government, how they regulate each other, and their functions in a nation.
The judiciary interprets, defends and applies law in the name of the state, the executive enforces laws and maintains law and order, and the legislature passes laws, establishes the budget, and many more (Ghai, 2014).

Application of Learned Concepts
I have learned about the functions of various branches of the government, when I have a law-related problem I look for the judiciary, and so on. I am able to apply my complaints to the relevant branch of the government.
From learning about the government and it policies I am able to apply it on;
Setting up businesses while being cautious about the government policies.
Practicing my rights and freedom. For example, voting rights

There are many ways of applying what I have learned in real life situation. First, I am able to participate in my rights such as voting, exercising my freedom of speech, rights to owning property, and many more.
Additionally, through knowing my rights, I may not be manipulated or swayed around by some corrupt government officials who might have ill intentions.
On the matter of owning property, a business is also considered a property. Through this knowledge, I will run the business according to the government policies to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.

Continuation
Working towards achieving the goals of the nation. It is because the constitution lays out the goals that a country is aiming at achieving within a certain duration.
Practice my roles as a citizen. For example, promoting patriotism
Practice the legal and cultural aspects allowed by the constitution to maintain law and order.
Knowledge about politics, thus, can vie for seat when knowledgeable about my roles, what is expected of me, and how to perform them.

Every nation has its goals. Some might have a goal of improving the economy, improving their border security, creating job security, and many more. By understanding the goals, it is possible to work towards the direction of the goal to improve the nations phase of development.
Additionally, By reading the constitution an individual understands the law. This means that an individual will live while observing the laws of a nation.

Conclusion
In summary, it is important for every citizen of the United States to understand how the government operates, its roles, the government’s expectation on the citizen, and many more. By learning these concepts, an individual is able to keep away from activities that might attract government law enforcers.
Additionally, It brings a sense of belonging to a nation, thus, promotes patriotism among the citizens. To the immigrants who are legal in the country, understanding the government and history of US is a must before being a citizen of US.
