What I found Interesting and Trends
Indeed, the debate as to whether a college education is worth the cost is far from settled. From my research, it is evident that proponents support college education regardless of the exorbitant costs that one has to incur. On the other hand, the critics, even prominent business moguls such as Elon musk, downplay the importance of a college education. This was quite a surprising finding for me as I thought that accomplished business magnates would be staunch supporters of a college education. However, the argument as to whether a college education is essential should not be based on whims, subjective opinions, and biased debates that are inclined to specific political or social slant. Instead, I realized that one should be flexible and be guided by the empirical findings from research that deploys a scientifically sound methodology.
My research was founded on credible sources, and hence they passed the CRAAP test. I ensured that most of the sources were peer-reviewed to ensure the authenticity of the information they offered. My deeper analysis of these research materials showcased the proven benefits of a college education—some sources, such as Forbes, present evidential information. The peer-review articles such as Hess (2021) and Baum (2004) provide empirical data to persuade the readers of the importance of a college education.
There is something more surprising that I noticed during my research. I realized that the proponents of college education significantly rely on quality research to corroborate its importance. On the other hand, I realized that some critics rely on the current market trends whereby some organizations such as Google and Apple Inc. may hire employees based on their skills and not their college degrees which is an irreducible minimum to other employers. For this reason, while these observations seem to undermine the college degree’s importance, it would still be logical to rely on previous trends and reports to establish the relevance of a college degree. It is for this reason I came across many empirical articles substantiating the importance of college education than those that refuted
