CS553 Networking Technologies
Final Project Information
Your Final Project counts as 40% of your grade. Your complete project is due prior to
the start of Module 7.
You must obtain prior approval for your topic from the professor via a 1-paragraph
proposal submitted on the CS553 Project Request Form prior to the second week of
class. Do not begin the project until you have obtained approval from the professor.
The topic should illustrate specific applications of Networking Technology principles. If
applicable, data and software for these projects can be obtained from various Internet
sites, or developed by students.
Sample project ideas include, but are not limited to:
• IPv4 and IPv6 implementations
• Fiber Optic Communications
• Level 2 vs. Level 3 Routing
• Ethernet Cable Categorization and Usage
• Software Defined Networks
• Internet of Everything
• Voice over IP (VoIP)
• Wireless Networking Equipment and Standards
• Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet technology
• Broadband technologies and multimedia applications
You may also use your own creativity to pick an interesting topic, but your instructor
must approve it.
Your assignment is to write a research paper and presentation. The paper must be at
least 20 typed pages plus a bibliography in APA format.

Also required will be a 15-slide presentation in PowerPoint that summarizes your
project. The purpose of the presentation is to illustrate the main findings of your paper.
Be creative and use pictures and drawings to illustrate your findings. Don’t use just copy
and paste from your paper. The final Module will entail a discussion centered on the
submitted presentations.
