Requirements

You will participate in two online discussion this semester.

Fully answer the question(s) of each Discussion (175-word minimum) and respond to

two other student’s posts (75-word minimum). Simply saying “good point or “I agree”

will not suffice and will result in a grade of zero (0) for the response. Your response

posts must expand the conversation. There is a separate due date for your initial

post and for your responses. You will not see what other students are posting until

your initial response to the discussion question.

 You will be graded on content and mechanics. Be sure to answer the question

presented. Mechanics include sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, grammar.

Be sure to proofread your discussion before submitting it. You must be

thoughtful, respectful and thorough in your posts (it is always a good idea to post

references if the idea is not your original thought – plagiarism in any form is not

tolerated).

Etiquette is required. Remember that words are forever. Once you submit it will

be stored on servers for others to read. You won’t be able to easily take back your

words. Avoid language that is humorous, angry, sarcastic, or offensive. You are

interacting with people, not a computer, so remember to use a respectful “tone,”

whether you are agreeing or disagreeing with another person’s posting. Keep in

mind that you should not use netspeak abbreviations (“u” for “you”, “R” for

“are”), emoticons, or acronyms, and if using others’ ideas or quotes, cite your

references just as you would in an academic paper.

Student driven discussion. Although I will be reading the discussion board posts

regularly, I will not reply to each person’s post. I want students to reply to each

other. I may post new threads, ask questions, ask for clarification, and add

information and discussion summaries as needed. I expect each student to read

all other student posts and replies.

 This is your opportunity to show critical thinking. You may respond to as many

discussion posts as you wish and you may continue the discussion with another

student until it is complete.
