100-word response

One thing I learned after reviewing this week’s lesson was that if you use a direct quote and it is over 40 words, you have to indent to a new line and then put the quote below the article. The quote must then be indented 1/2 inch for the entire quote, almost as if it were in it’s own paragraph. (Purdue Writing Lab, n.d.) If you do a short quote then you can put the wording in parentheses and then tag the author, year and page number afterwards. I have never known this before and am sure that I would have messed it up if I were to ever use a direct quotation that long. Thankfully, I have always been very careful to not quote too much in my papers as to not be tagged with too much plagiarism through Turnitin.com.
It is a good idea to have someone proofread your paper because they can see the little mistakes that you may not have noticed while writing your paper. A different set of eyes can offer a more in depth look at your paper than you reviewing your own paper over and over again. Another person will be able to tell you if your paper makes sense and flows. Every person thinks in a different way, the way you think may not articulate to your audience. If another person reads what you wrote, they may be able to show you where you can make changes in order to ensure your paper makes sense to everyone who reads it, not just you yourself.
