Mandatory Vaccination
Mandatory vaccination has become a common and familiar term as the world is increasingly being exposed to various diseases. Professionals in the medical field have been compelled to encourage members of public to get vaccinated against a specific or a number of diseases. The overall purpose of vaccination is to increase the rate of antibodies production in the body directly boosting immunity levels against a causative agent of a disease. Many people having understood this reality has remained supportive of the mandatory vaccination. However, there are other people who feel that bodies have a natural way of fighting diseases and that vaccines should not be mandatory not ignoring massive deaths that occurs even after vaccination. All the same, a majority of governments across the world including US have a firm stand on mandatory vaccination like against diseases like polio, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A and B and HPV. Taking a neutral ground, it is important to review the issue in an all-rounded perspective to have a clear understanding whether mandatory vaccination is necessary or not. This is through reviewing the advantages and disadvantages of mandatory vaccination not only in America but globally.
Mandatory vaccination was introduced in the first place with sole intention of saving lives something that the practice has proven to have assisted in achieving. In an article by Morganstein, et al., (2017) the world has a long history of vaccines with some of them being made mandatory. This is after realizing the invention of some infectious diseases whose outbreak could spread very fast, affect many people, and cause massive damage through deaths and even paralyzing some. Massive medical and scientific research proved, whenever a new bacteria is developed, it affects the body intensely since the body develops immunity towards causative agents it is familiar with. To save people in the case of a contagious disease outbreak, it is critical to develop and inject people with an antidote that would help the body develop ample immune system against the said causative agent (Morganstein, et al., 2017). Further, the research noted that immediately people would get vaccinated against an outbreak, the rate of infection would go down and eventually get forgotten. Hence, making mandatory vaccinations has historically beared desirable results by boosting immune levels against death and harm causing agents to the point of saving life and this means mandatory vaccines overall goals and purpose is ethical and professional and should be supported by all.
Mandatory vaccinations are important because they help in maintaining order and control in the health sector and overall federal economy. In a research by Tahamtan, et al., (2017) the healthcare sector is one of the most important sectors in any country and determines the quality of public health the citizens would have. The industry is aware of some stubborn causative agents that easily attack the body and how costly it is to treat the diseases such causative agents cause. For instance, polio is one of the most challenging diseases to treat and its effects are irreversible. Mandatory vaccinations have hence been put in place by the government and implemented through the ministry of health to ensure that citizens are protected from some dominant and stubborn disease causing bacterias and viruses that can compel them to seek medical attention more often, lead to physical, emotional, and psychological health deterioration, and eventually interfere with their ability to engage in economic activities (Tahamtan, et al., 2017). With mandatory vaccinations, people are empowered to naturally fight germs and disease causing agents thereby making only a few would me seeking medical attention and majority contributing positively to the economy.
Through mandatory vaccinations, the most vulnerable in the society that are easily affected by any disease causing agent are protected. According to Savulescu, (2021); there are a lot of people who are born with a weak body system and others the weaknesses develop in the course of existence. Such people are easily exposed to disease causing agents and their vulnerability makes them easy targets. It is important to note that every person in the society is an eligible carrier of bacterias and viruses that causes diseases and other infections. It is the level of immune system in the body that determines the late at which one can contract a disease. Mandatory vaccinations increases levels of immune ability and this makes the body to automatically kill disease causing agents hence lowering the rate of carriers. By so doing, the vulnerable in the society are protected by easy spread and contraction.
Mandatory vaccinations since their introduction and the manner in which they are emphasized as well as implemented have remained a major source of division among members of the society. The division is realized as a result of poor communication and lack of understanding the content which makes the vaccines and why they have to be made mandatory (Gualano, et al., 2019). A lot of people have been of the feeling that bodies are structured in a way they can fight diseases without any form of external support. As a matter of reality, there are beliefs that many of the diseases that keep on affecting people are as a result of mandatory vaccinations that people have been vaccinated since their childhood. The more reason is that once something new is introduced into the body it compromises the original working of the body. Hence, the body has to constantly get injected with chemicals to boost and maintain its survival (Gualano, et al., 2019). Hence, many tends to belief that vaccines should be a personal choice that people should make without the government through the ministry of health forcing people to get vaccinated.
There are a lot of vaccines that have negatively affected the vaccinated people to the point of causing death instead of saving people from the same death. this is an argument raised by Tahamtan, et al., (2017); where it is states that in the history of the world, scientists and medics are also never sure about the vaccines they introduce and encourage people to get injected with. There have been people who have succumbed to the same ailment that they have been vaccinated against thereby proving that vaccination is not overall protection and could also act as a hindrance against bodies fighting against germs and diseases. In other cases, there are people with major conditions like heart conditions such that when they get injected, the chemicals in the vaccines makes the situation worse triggering the death of the person. This is a major concern because even in the recent case of COVID-19, there are a relatively high number of people that succumbed as a result of the corona virus. Making vaccines mandatory wipes out reasons and chances for medical professionals to take citizens through tests to determine whether their bodies can withstand the chemicals in the vaccine or not thereby placing lives at a greater risk (Tahamtan, et al., 2017). This is enough proof that vaccination should not be made mandatory since it is not guarantee that it will result into intended goals and objectives.
Constitutionally, people have been granted freedom to make informed choices of what they want to do and avoid what they do not want. The constitution mandates parents to make decisions on behalf of their children who have not attained the legal age of 18 years. Mandatory vaccinations outrightly takes away the human rights mandated under the constitution since the government makes orders that all people must comply with without questioning (Vrdelja, Učakar, & Kraigher, 2020). It is for this reason that many people have been against the idea feeling that the government should be a respecter of the constitution by allowing people to make personal choices of whether to get vaccinated or not. All the government should do is enlighten citizens using all means possible and provide proof of vaccines and leave the decision solely to the citizens.
Vaccination is one of the best mediations for the greater good of the planet, to save lives and increase well-being. It’s just that perfect water, considered a fundamental freedom, works better. However, antibody uptake has decreased in some countries and it is believed that this is largely due to misinformed concerns about the welfare of vaccination (Tahamtan, et al., 2017). Whenever antibodies control disease, caregivers are less likely to notice the detrimental effects of immunization and directly prevent intolerable infection. Losing nervousness or doubts about vaccinations can easily dispel worries about the actual illness. As immunization rates fall, we begin to see a resurgence of intolerable infections.
On the other hand, demonstrators hostile to the blockade protested the blockade that had just been lifted a few hours earlier. The fact is that whatever the government does, it will be met with resistance. The coronavirus restrictions in particular have sparked contention around the world, and mandatory vaccination is over. Whatever has been achieved in their body is not treated in the same way, even though scholastics and others hypothetically think it’s just a limitation, people have that kind of emotional response (Tahamtan, et al., 2017). The necessary vaccinations can be counterproductive. Some have longer-standing concerns, such as whether an effective program could raise doubts about future missions. Mandatory contingency plans are counterproductive.
Whenever people have fear-inspired ideas, or have skepticism or misunderstanding, they only increase their prospects. Vrdelja, Učakar, & Kraigher (2020) assert that to the political environment, parties taking advantage of vaccination resistance and realizing that it can be a method of winning votes from certain sections of the population. People can see more gatherings and will often be on the right, posting such messages about their political mandate and saying they need to end mandatory vaccination. It is horror, and once it happens, they have no choice but to take it as an approach.
In conclusion, mandatory vaccinations have been applied on people since time in memorial and a high percentage is aware of the benefits associated with the vaccines and some have suffered negative effects thereby getting exposed to risks involved. It is a fact that there are valid reasons that makes some vaccines mandatory since there are living evidence of victims of people who avoided some mandatory vaccines like polio among others. However, people have constitutional rights to make their own uninterfered with decisions in regards to vaccinations. A lot of accurate information should be shared so that people can understand what makes up these vaccines, how they work in the body, and how their absence would mean to the body and life in general. It is from such understanding that people should be allowed to make informed decisions on whether or not to get vaccinated because by allowing freedom, people will have the chance to be more careful and attentive to diseases and how best to keep themselves safe. This is the only way the feeling of reprimand would be gotten ridden off and people would voluntarily go for vaccinations. The higher the understanding of the entire vaccination context the government would create; the greater the rate of supporters and positive attitude towards vaccines.

*Please note that you will not write the full essay itself until Week 5. This guidelines sheet is intended
to help you understand how the steps you take in Weeks 1-4 feed into the final paper requirements
and to lay out for you the process, in Weeks 5-7, of writing and revising the paper.
The Full Essay Assignment (first full draft due in Week 5, and final draft due in Week 7)
Your Argument Research Paper will present your argumentative claim, or stance, on a specific,
focused, debatable topic. The final draft will demonstrate the argument, writing, and revision
techniques studied in the course and will build upon the steps you will have taken in previous weeks
toward thoroughly and carefully revising your Argument Research Paper Draft, originally composed
and submitted in Week 5.
Writing Requirements for the Argument Research Essay First Draft, Due in Week 5, and for the
Argument Essay Final Draft, Due in Week 7
• Correct use of APA guidelines for the following:
o Headers with pagination
o Title Page
o Margins, spacing, and paragraph indentation
o APA in-text citation and referencing for all sources
o Do not divide your essay into sections.
o Do not use headings within your paper to indicate changes in topic. While longer APA essays
and particular types of APA writing, such as scholarly articles, employ APA-style bolded headings to
divide portions of the writing, you are writing a shorter academic essay. Your shift from one paragraph
to the next should be signaled through your use of the effective transition and topic sentence rules we
have practiced.
• 6-8 full pages for the essay itself, not including title page or reference
• Effective structure, including your introduction paragraph, your body paragraphs, and your
conclusion paragraph
• Use of third-person throughout. Focus on the topic, not on you nor on the essay. In other
words: no first-person “I,” and no referring to the essay, such as “In this essay.”
• At least 5 scholarly sources visibly used, cited, and referenced
• Refer to the full Argument Research Essay Rubric (located in Week 7 Assignment)
Grading: This activity will be graded using the Argument Research Essay Rubric.
