Agentsof Socialization
Purpose:
1. This assignment is designed for students to illustrate that they understand the different
agents of socialization.
2. This assignment allows students to think about how these agents of socialization have
influence their lives and developing original examples to illustrate the influence.
3. This assignment will also allow students to show the understanding of sociological
terminology (agents of socialization, socialization, social expectations).
Task:
Students will need to respond to the following questions using complete sentences and original
examples.
1. Define the term
. (definition needs to be sociological)
2. Identify two (2) Agents of Socialization that have had an impact on your life.
3. Explain the impact both of your chosen agents of socialization have had on your
life. Your explanation should include concrete examples as to how both of your
chosen agents of socialization have impacted your life. For example—if your
chosen agent of socialization is your family—do not, say that my family taught
me morals and values. If you use morals and values, you will need to explain
what morals and values your family taught you—as that provides specific details.
Remember not everyone has the same morals and values.
4. Define the term Social Expectation. (definition needs to be sociological—do not
use Wikipedia—use the course material)
5. Illustrate how both of your chosen agents of socialization passed on social
expectations to you. What social expectations do you plan to pass down to
future generations that were passed down to you from both of your chosen
agents of socialization. Make sure your examples are clear and concrete. For
example, if one of your chosen agents of socialization is your family—do not,
say that you plan to pass on the morals and values your family passed down to
you—as this is not a strong response and does not clearly illustrate what morals
and values you have. Instead, you want to provide an example of specific morals
and values that were passed down to you and which you plan to pass down to
future generations. Make sure your example illustrates this.
Criteria for Success:
Students will need to:
1. Respond to all questions in complete sentences.
2. Provide original and concrete examples.
3. Complete assignment by the due date.
4. Submit the assignment using the following steps:
