    Notes for using the Data Analysis Add-in in EXCEL
    1. To check whether you have the add-in installed, run EXCEL. Go to the Tools
    menu. If you can find “Data Analysis” as one of the menu items, then you have it.
    Otherwise, choose the Add-ins menu item to install the add-in. (You need to have
    the Microsoft Office or EXCEL disk ready before your installation.) After you
    choose the Add-ins menu item, the system will ask you to choose which one you
    wish to make available, choose “Analysis ToolPak” but selecting the check box
    and then click OK.
    2. To calculate Descriptive Statistics of a set of data, go to the Tools menu and
    choose the Data Analysis menu item (it will be there if you have the add-in
    installed). The Add-in will then ask you to choose an “Analysis Tool”. Choose
    “Descriptive Statistics” and click OK. An input screen will appear as follows.
    Complete the input screen by specifying:




    Input range: Your data to be analysis
    Grouped by: Tell the system where your data is in a column or row by click
    on the proper radio button
    Check the Labels in First Row (Column) box if it is applicable
    Check the box beside Summary Statistics (very important)
    Results of the analysis will then show up in a separate worksheet.
    3. To create a histogram of a set of data, go to the Tools menu and choose the Data
    Analysis menu item. The Add-in will then ask you to choose an “Analysis Tool”.
    Choose “Histogram” and click OK. An input screen will appear as follows.
    Complete the input screen by specifying:




    Input range: Your data to be analyzed
    Bin Range: Do not enter anything here for now. The system will calculate the
    range automatically
    Check the Labels if a label (name) is in the first row
    Check the box beside Chart Output
    A histogram will then show up in a separate worksheet.
