This chapter is about the Texas Executive Branch. As you read this chapter, keep in mind that Texas has a plural executive, which means the executive branch power is spread among multiple individuals.
Two different options for your post. You only need to pick one of the following:
Option 1: The current Texas Governor is Greg Abbott. He came into office in 2015. For your post I want you to spend some time researching Governor Greg Abbott, visit his website, and visit some media websites and do some research on him. For your post tell us: do you think Greg Abbott is doing a good job as Texas Governor or a bad job? Why do you think this? What issues do you agree and/or disagree with him on? What did you learn about Greg Abbott in your research that you can share with the group that others may not know?
Option 2: Pick another person in the Texas Executive Branch – and you can write about any of those individuals using the above prompt (i.e. do what I asked you to do for the Texas Governor and write about another person in the Texas Executive Branch by visiting their website, tell us what this person does in the Texas Executive, do some research on the specific person, is the person doing a good job, etc.
A FUN activity to do on your own or with your family! The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts is part of the Texas Executive Branch. Google to the website of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and click on “Unclaimed Property” on the home page (look for it and you will find it!). This office in the Executive Branch is in charge of the over $3 billion of unclaimed property in Texas. Search for your names and see if you find any money and claim it!
This chapter is about the Texas judiciary. We have all seen television programs about the legal system and I find that when people read about the judicial system “for real” they find it fascinating and sometimes different than they have seen on television if they are not in the legal field. Have fun reading this chapter and let me know if you have any questions! I think you will enjoy this chapter.
